I am a supporter for more/good privacy on the blockchain. But that does not mean that other aspects might be more important, such as adherence to the inflation schedule. (And, yes, I think the EDA still created an ugly wart in BCH!)
Being able to do a check of sum(UTXOs(height)) <= reward-schedule(height) is a huge benefit of the current scheme, in my opinion.
I would support a scheme of CT on BCH that would keep the individual amounts blinded but the sum intact - and also only if it is optional, not mandatory.
The whole idea that it would be good if it is mandatory is essentially thinly veiled authoritarianism.

This is another "I hate you I hope you die / You can't break up with me" situation, because the entire Blockstream / Core / ideological small blockery side has rationalized why it's a "store-of-value" and payment system isn't important, yet somehow BitPay is the enemy for entertaining other options because Core doesn't want them!

Tide is turning. As expected several years ago. Blocksize debate will not be decided by old folks, arguing over and over again but by x10 new folks entering the space and see things for what they are.

Little, funny story: I digged into IOTA last week, because it is a big thing in Germany. The similarities with Core people are amazing. Both groups insist on the following: "Our current product does not work properly, yes. But we have the best developers, real genies, and I belief that Lightning / the Tangle is the greatest innovation in this space and will outsmart Altcoins / Blockchains".

I think it's worth thinking about exactly how the Bitcoin Core propaganda machine is so effective. It's quite impressive how quickly they come up with new angles and new agendas that feed into seeds they have planted in peoples minds previously.
This is their area of expertise, software design is just a means to an end which they clearly aren't even that good at.

We have what we want, free market money, merchants and customers decide what money they prefer. These things will sort out themselves eventually, ending with one dominant money type and countless alts.

It is really strange why those same guys are now upset about BitCash being able to process retail payments. They hammered down on us that Bitcoin is not made for this, they fought any solution to maintain bitcoin's ability to be used for payments, they said to us, please go, go, go away, let us have our Bitcoin without payment functionality, make your own altcoin - now they won, won totally, we are gone, we did not change Bitcoin, nobody changed Bitcoin (beside Core, but this is a) ok, because core, and b) ok, because softfork), they have their digital megagold, we are on an altcoin - but they still have to reach out on every corner of the internet to fight Bitcoin Cash. Why? I have three theories:
1) They are in war modus and simply can't stop.
2) They don't want to see anything called Bitcoin used for payments anytime
3) They know, deep inside, that they have been fooled, that SegWit has not been the scaling solution they thought, that LN will not free them, and so on. Bitcoin Cash is the thing that shows them that they are fools, so they hate it.

I've written a little article on changing Bitcoin Cash addresses to Base32 cashaddr format this January 14 2018.
It seems to me the more we can get exchanges/wallets/payment processors on the same page the better it is for everybody.
Bitpay really hates having the same address as legacy BTC. A decent amount of users seem to get the two mixed up when sending coins.

I'm a little confused...
bitpay is huge news. My biggest fear regarding BCH was some stranglehold on bitpay being strong enough to keep them from making this move (which is the only sensible thing to do for them from a business perspective).
Except from a short rally 2 days or so ago (insiders? leak?) I don't see this reflected in the price at all.
So either it has been priced in already (I doubt this. BCH for merchants - at least in my perception - wasn't a given (or even likely) for bitpay at any time) or I'm missing something else.
EDIT: an explanation might've been sellers taking the opportunity, but the volume doesn't support that.
