Membership vote on BU Improvement Processes

Four BUIPs are open for voting for five days - ending 23:00 UTC, 20 January 2019

Votes should be cast in the BU website voting system
In the event of a problem votes can be made in this thread and will be counted.

Votes are for/against or abstain
BUIP votes made on the website can now be aggregated for one signature. New member proposals can also be signed with one signature.

Votes need to be signed.

Note that all open proposals can be voted on at once, requiring a single signature.
Also, all new member applications can be voted on at once, requiring a second signing.

Please get involved. Bitcoin Unlimited is the start of a new paradigm where the membership decides on the admission of new members and operational changes requiring expenditure of funds.

Hi mkomaransky,
As discussed privately, we do appreciate that members may need to change their public key. I'll include your votes in the count and update your entry in the members list with your new key, after the current vote completes.

I looked at this URL:

https://www.bitcoinunlimited.info/voting/

I could not find a function where I can see a list of all BU membership applications, a list of who voted what (yes, no, abstain etc) for each membership application, and a result for each membership application (became or did not become a member). Can you add such functionality to the BU voting system?

I'm asking this (mostly) because I'd like to know who voted yes and no for @Jonathan Silverblood's BU membership application and to see if he was accepted as a member or not. Just like it's possible to view all that with a BUIP that was voted on.
[doublepost=1548295770][/doublepost]What's the difference between voting "abstain" and "spoil"?

How many yes votes is required to vote in a new member? I guess as long as there is at least one more yes vote than no votes, the member will be accepted?

In that link, near the top, is another link for the membership list.
In that page there is also a link for the previous member list which will show the applications at the bottom, with the votes cast.

50% quorum was 23 for the previous vote (45 members) and both applicants achieved that with 22 voting system votes, plus one manual vote (earlier in this thread). Because a 50% turnout was achieved, a simple majority "for" is enough to ensure a successful application. Because the voting system does not know about the manual vote, the membership list in the voting system needs to be manually updated to reflect the result, which I will be doing well before the next vote.

"Abstain" counts to quorum, whereas "spoil" doesn't.

Ok, thanks for explaining.

I looked at this page:

https://www.bitcoinunlimited.info/voting/render/member_election_result/2423ccecfa94bbd04c3b6cce306f3faaba110196a9e8dbb9035a88411732811b

It currently says:

  • New member accepted: NO
  • Number of ballots cast: 22
  • Quorum reached: False
  • ACCEPT votes: 14
  • REJECT votes: 6
  • ABSTAIN votes: 2
  • SPOILED votes: 0
Can you make it so that the voting system adds this information as well?

"Quorum reached: False (50% quorum was 23 (because 45 members at the time))"

Then it would be possible to see "how close" an application were from being accepted / not accepted.

I think that it's a lot of unintuitive clicks to reach that page that I linked and that people in general would probably appreciate if such information was made to be more easily found.

I agree that more clarity over the details like this is desirable. There is not a free-text facility as such, so it is necessary to get further development done, while also giving consideration to the costs involved.
