Prospective members are also asked to provide a public key which they will use for voting. Bitcoin Unlimited is a participatory organization where we do ask that people devote a small amount of time, every couple of months to guide the direction of the software and org itself. (added by edit)

More links to external posting history are welcome, and I'll add them here. In the current adversarial climate the links prove helpful to existing members to make their evaluation.

A warm welcome to the new applicants, @Hyena @DeftNerd @painlord2k @arruah @guster @Ken Shishido @BldSwtTrs @Bryce Weiner @drwasho @Joel Dalais and welcome again to any I've interacted with in the past.

I'd like to reiterate that BU is just one of may bitcoin implementations and membership vote is how we govern changes in this implementation. Members contribute on a voluntary basis and membership requires active participation to direct this project.

BU is differentiated from other bitcoin implementations by this governed method giving an opportunity to all professions and economic classes to participate in the development process of bitcoin.

The adoption of BU within the bitcoin network is also voluntary and as such members only indirectly impact the direction of the bitcoin protocol leaving the network participants free to chose the software that runs the Bitcoin protocol.

It is a priority for me to grow an active and diverse membership that is robust enough to prevent governing issues we've seen with the past specifically the concept of a single reference client run by a hegemony of encumber developers.

I don't have any good formula for improving the screening process for new members, and I'd hate to see membership deteriorate. I'd like BU governance to evolve into the best form of governance there is, so we are going to need a competent and membership capable of critical thinking.

Before I cast a vote for new members please meet me half way and help me understand you by confirming the flowing:
  1. An online identity that can be validated that represents your participation in the cryptocurrencyspace space (if you haven't already done so.)
  2. You've read and comprehend the Bitcoin Unlimited: Articles of Federation?
  3. Can give some critical feedback on:
    a. one principal in the Articles you mostly agree with and why?
    b. one principal you think can be improved in the Articles and why?
  4. An appropriate screening question to ask new applicants to prevent introducing bad apples to the membership?
  5. The date you first started participating in some aspect of cryptocurrencyspace discussion.
;) I think other members would also be interested in your responses.

P.s. You don't need to be a member to participate in development, everyone is welcome in the process. I'd encourage you all to ask questions, comment, discuss address advantages or disadvantages in the current BUIP's. Your participation and ideas are welcome:

Hi,
I am not a programmer. My background is sales, business development in enterprise telecom/data network service field. I tried to run for the lower house parliament election in 2012 representing District 5 in Tokyo/District 3 in Hiroshima. (but I didn't get the party's official nomination. I was with then called "Osaka Revolution Party" which was a bit like Ron Paul Movement in US.) Anyway, below is my homework. I would like to give my best shot to help Bitcoin.
  1. An online identity that can be validated that represents your participation in the cryptocurrencyspace space (if you haven't already done so. )
Ken: reddit: tokyosilver
keybase: keybase.io/kenshishido
  1. You've read and comprehend the Bitcoin Unlimited: Articles of Federation?
Ken: Yes
  1. Can give some critical feedback on:
    a. one principal in the Articles you mostly agree with and why?
Ken: I like "Article I. Satoshi's original vision: a scalable Bitcoin" because he said so. I think reason why he set 1M because he knew one day Core Dev gets hijacked. He wanted all the community members to think for ourselves before swallowing any upgrade we get from the centralized core. We get stronger this way.
  1. b. one principal you think can be improved in the Articles and why?
Ken: Do you need Bitcoin Unlimited Pool to be operated by BU foundation at this point?
  1. An appropriate screening question to ask new applicants to prevent introducing bad apples to the membership?
Ken: What did Satoshi Nakamoto say about his motivation to create Bitcoin in P2P foundation?
  1. The date you first started participating in some aspect of cryptocurrencyspace discussion.
Ken: My first blog post about Bitcoin was on July 4, 2011 (in Japanese. I think I am the earliest in Japan). http://tokyosilver999.blogspot.it/2011/07/what-is-bitcoin.html
I was not active in bitcointalk forum nor r/bitcoin in those days.

I became co-organizer for Tokyo Bitcoin Meetup Group since 2013 (requested by Roger Ver) and have personally hosted over 147 meetups in Tokyo.

Edit: I have done a doo-wop song, "Scaling Needs Tonight" last December. If you haven't checked it out, please do. Lyrics still stands.
Ken: my public address for voting will be:-

Thanks

There are several new member applicants I'd like to vote on, but can't on the website.
Can I vote for them on the forum only?
Or not at all - if so, why exactly?

Edit, for Adrian;

A1. See above/OP, though my FB is mostly private.
A2. Yes.
A3. a) The way BUIP's are voted on. It's representative democracy, which is nice, and possibly the best we can have when it comes to different implementations.
b) The representation (e.g. voting BUIP's) could be more publicized. And BU might need to think about pulling in more people to represent itself - assuming BU becomes the main implementation (which it will).
A4. Get people to pm via their external social media, to verify they are who they say they are. And this is also assuming the social media accounts have been checked and are not bought/shill accounts.
A5. Many, many years ago.. man, time fly's...

The website requires a btc address for voting purposes. In order that potential new members are properly able to participate in future BU vote events then a btc address is needed now. Only 3 have provided it before the current vote started.
The BU articles require signed votes so potential members should be able to do the minimum of supplying a btc address.
If they do then they can be added to the website proposed members list.

@Joel Dalais
Thanks, I'll add yours to the site.

@solex : Still a leftover of my question:

So I can nevertheless vote for any of the applicant's listed in BUIP060 - I just have to do it via the forum?

Yes. The link is broken by the way (404)

Can give some critical feedback on:
a. one principal in the Articles you mostly agree with and why?
b. one principal you think can be improved in the Articles and why?
a) free market already implements the maximum block size limit, that's all we need!
Code:
From the Bitcoin white paper, "nodes accept the block only if
all transactions in it are valid and not already spent." A block
cannot be invalid because of its size. Instead, excessively large
blocks that would pose technical challenges to a node are dealt
with in the transport layer, increasing the block's orphaning
risk. Bitcoin Unlimited nodes can accept a chain with an
excessive block, when needed, in order to track consensus.
b) P2Pool should be utilized and promoted instead.
Code:
To alleviate real or perceived risk of this pool gaining more
than 50% of total network hash power, if the pool's hash
power exceeds an average of 30% for more than 30
consecutive days, it must disband into two completely
separate entities with no personnel overlap.
An appropriate screening question to ask new applicants to prevent introducing bad apples to the membership?
Personal information such as the real name and some soft proof of identity. The UASF trolls wouldn't like to provide such data.

The date you first started participating in some aspect of cryptocurrencyspace discussion.
Here's my first Bitcoin related post ever:

@arruah In addition to your btc address, can you provide some links to your on-line posting history about Bitcoin? Even if they are on a Kazakh forum that would be a help to us.
