Hi,
In October we are taking part in a Payment Race for the publication Fintech Finance, where you have to use 1 payment method to get from Toronto to Las Vegas.
We have been given Bitcoin to use solely for the journey that will take 7 days. Our racer, Amelie, has never used bitcoin before and we are looking for help and assistance at the time to get us to the finish. While this will be a great way to see how accessible bitcoin is we will be needing help as to how we can travel with that particular currency.
Any help now or at the time will be greatly appreciated!

For example, Bitpay (among others) issues a VISA debit card. You sign up with them, satisfy their KYC/AML requirements, top off your debit card with bitcoin, use card as usual at the point of sale.

I believe cards such as Bitpay are against the rules as they convert the Bitcoin to another currency (in this case Dollars) at the POS and do not complete the transaction solely through Bitcoin as the currency! This is one of our issues as Bitpay did look like a good option!

In that case the competition Fintech Finance has designed stopped making sense circa 2012.

i think many bitcoin investors stopped thinking POS adoption was a top priority, years ago. among other reasons, because you can so easily convert to fiat, which is banned by the competition rules. so the story that Fintech Finance plans to run out of this sounds hopelessly out of date. being able to live on only on Bitcoin was a story in 2012, i doubt anybody thinks it makes much of a difference now.
