Executive BUIP asking members for approval to spend BU funds.
by Jerry Chan, Andrew Clifford
Sept. 29, 2016
Sept.30,2016, PPP info added

Objective

Given the launch of the renewed adoption campaign after a successful Satoshi's Vision conference, it seems that we need to update the website as part of the outreach initiative in order to get the information out there about BU and what it stands for, the team members, and the roadmap ahead. This will serve the goal of reinforcing our commitment to the client, instilling confidence on the miners that they can depend on the quality of the developer team, and that we have a strategic vision for Bitcoin, and not just trying to solve a short term problem.

Discrete categories of improvements and enhancements

  1. Decentralized Development Vision
Add a section on the Bitcoin Unlimited vision for multiple implementations as a key component to long-term Bitcoin network security, as outlined by Justus Ranvier at the Satoshi's Vision conference. (include slide images showing the risk profile of multiple implementations with positive skewed peak at n=2. Also, pie-chart graphic moving over time. Clarify vision and commitment to work cooperatively with other Bitcoin implementation clients, sharing improvements and co-operating on any future protocol changes.

We believe decentralization of clients is the best way for the Bitcoin ecosystem to grow and strengthen. Much like how diversification of UNIX implementations allowed for the survival and eventual dominance of *NIX systems in the industry, Bitcoin must diversify to allow for different clients to develop independently, while observing the overall protocol rules, so that no one failure or bug in one client can ever severely affect the operation of the network.
    PPP $500

  2. Biographical Info and Members List
Add a section to personalize the BU website with biographical information (photographs and past record in both non-bitcoin and bitcoin work). These would include the BU elected officers, BUF appointments, and contributing developers. Member bios also desirable, but those who want anonymity can have it, so this is a voluntary step.

This will allow for people to get to know the team and to feel more secure in the trust they put in BU when they run our software. All executive positions MUST be fully transparent. Members may be pseudonymous but have public voting keys and at least member status (how long have they been a member etc)
    PPP $500

  3. BUIP Library
All BUIPs should be easily accessible on the website, with current voting status. Voting schedules should be easily accessible. (Work already well advanced on this by @sickpig).
    PPP $500

  4. Funded Projects Past and Present
List of current projects/subtask contracts (what others call bounties) that are outstanding and who is working on them. This allows for interested developers to instantly see what task force they can immediate help contributing to.
    PPP $500

  5. Easy Node Installation
Perhaps only partially related to outreach/website, is the notion that the installation of the client should be made easier. Currently it is a bit clunky for a new user to just download and run it. Particularly the checksum verification. Perhaps a packaged version or dockerized container version would be easier to use.
    PPP $500

  6. Real-time Emergent Consensus
Add a page with a graphical representation of all the EB/AD values currently advertised.
Use bitnodes.21.co or similar as source. Poll at reduced rate - every hour at most.
(logarithmic scales) by density map. Overlay with MG values from mined blocks, and, when used, future generate size and proposed activation block height values (FGS, PABH).
    PPP $500
Project Progress Payments (PPP)

All sections have one payment each available. To be made out to a contributor who has a successful pull-request into https://github.com/BitcoinUnlimited/BitcoinUnlimitedWeb
Both the BU President and Secretary need to approve the final commit, before payment is made.

Maximum $3000 available for this BUIP.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

This BUIP is the "bounty" type where work can be submitted from several people. So, if this BUIP is approved, then it is necessary for those participating to reply in this thread stating which part 1-6 is being worked on. This is to reduce wasted effort where two people are tackling one change.

I think the use of bounties for project tasks is generally a good direction as it can attract talent and interest in the project globally.

Complementing that could be some sort of donations system for tasks proposed by the community, similar to what Monero is using (successfully, I believe).

@freetrader @digitsu No we are not. Voting commences for the Secretary position and new members (BUIP031) on Oct 5.
This BUIP is still being refined and should, but not definitely, make the cut for a vote on Oct 5 as well.

On Oct 5th I will start a ### VOTE ... ### thread, where all BUIPs up for vote will be listed.
