Reactivating node dormant since before BSV split

Hi All - long time no see. I could use some assistance. The Goal is to get my Bitcoin Cash node running again, but there may be several intermediate objectives along the way.

To the best of my knowledge, this node had likely been dormant since before the BSV split. The Information tab tells me that it is /Bitcoin ABC:0.14.6(EB8.0)/. I recently booted it up, and got it to mostly sync. This required some fiddling in trying to locate suitable peers. I had a power outage while syncing, and have since been unable to get it to sync. It keeps connecting to contemporary Core clients, and I can't seem to get to to find a suitable peer.

Now when I start it up, the status line says 'Syncing headers (100%)...' and it's 11 weeks behind (so close...). Current number of blocks: 738520.

I sat out the last few years, figuring no colder wallet than one that hasn't been run. I'm at a point now where I want to access the BCH (and BSV, and whatever else) is locked inside. There is a non-trivial amount of unsplit BCH on this node. Further, there is a lot more in an Armory wallet dependent upon this node. IIRC

Googling around on the topic of the grand ABC/everyone else battle, I have yet to locate a succinct picture of what went down. I am very confused as to how to move forward.

I think ideally, I would like to cajole this ABC node into finishing sync. That should allow me to access the BCH in both this node, and the associated Armory wallet. Once I have access, I'll need to split the various chains. At which point, I should be free to migrate to whatever platform seems best.

With all that as background, I would appreciate any help directing me to info on:
- getting this node synced
- what went down in the ABC/BCHN split - preferably from both perspectives
- suggestions on what to upgrade this node to once synced (I assume I'll need to re-sync from the split point)
- suggestions as to best discussion venues for these coins

Thanks!

Hey.

I understand that this isn't the information you asked for, but here what I am going to post:

download electrum, electron-cash, and electrumsv and import those private keys, and send the full value out of the imported privkey into an entirely new wallet...

and find out how to get your keys out of armory.

the value which is in keys you are able to import into the electrum family of wallets, send it out BTC, then BCH, then BSV.

Maybe use coinimi wallet for BCHA, I don't really know.

Good luck with whatever you do, cheers.

So.... no Bitcoin Casher runs a full node any longer?

I get your advise, I think. Here's the rub: Armory is an Hierarchical Deterministic wallet, but it is on a scheme that predates BIP44. I am unaware of any tool other than Armory that understands how to generate private keys from the 'recovery code' (i.e., seed). (If anyone knows different, I'd be most appreciative to be guided to such a tool). Ergo, I need a fully operating Armory install in order to obtain the private keys in order to split using the various electrum derivatives.

After a decade of use, I have never witnessed an Armory instance being able to cough up keys without a fully functioning and synced satoshi-derived node/wallet/bitcoind underneath it on the same machine. (While it may be that this is possible, I have never such witnessed - any countervailing evidence would be most appreciated) Ergo, I need to stand up a BCH satoshi-derived node/wallet/bitcoind fully-validating client in order to allow Armory to function.

So while your attempt to help is most appreciated, it does nothing to get me any closer to my goal of accessing my (not inconsiderable) BCH+BSV.

So we're back to my original questions, tempered with yet another question:

I would appreciate any help directing me to info on:
- getting this node synced
- what went down in the ABC/BCHN split - preferably from both perspectives
- suggestions on what to upgrade this node to once synced (I assume I'll need to re-sync from the split point)
- suggestions as to best discussion venues for these coins

And the new question:
- where can I find a discussion of tradeoffs of the various current BCH satoshi-derived node/wallet/bitcoind fully-validating clients, such that if I can't get this old ABC instance to work, I can make a rational selection of some other project?

wow brother, it sucks to have privatekeys stuck in some old tech.

> Note that all you really need to do is just get your private keys, and that does not require syncing the blockchain (so no Bitcoin Core).
>No, it does not have anything to do with the blockchain. The seed only contains the information necessary to regenerate your private keys. This can be done entirely offline without any need for the blockchain. You can then take those private keys and import them into other wallet software. There is no need to scan the blockchain for anything; you don't need to know what has been used or not. Just generate several thousand private keys and import them into another wallet. If you don't see all of your Bitcoin, you generate more keys. – Andrew Chow

I'm way out of my element, hope its not a bother, but I do wonder what Andrew Chow is on about here.

Just a quick note to thank bitsko for the breadcrumbs. I'm in the middle of falling down yet another rabbit hole, but I see my goal may just be ahead.
