With a population of 63,000, the Swiss city of Lugano is the first to accept payments in Bitcoin (BTC) and Tether from the global fast food giant McDonald's. This town is developing a reputation for being both crypto-friendly and a hotbed of Western European cryptocurrency adoption. Lugano stated in March 2022 that they accept LVGA token, Tether, and Bitcoin as legal tender.

More than that, since the city of Lugano and Tether Operations Ltd. signed a memorandum of understanding in March of this year, citizens there can pay for products and services, even taxes, with digital currencies. With the introduction of "Plan B," crypto can now be utilized in more sectors and industries, including paying for parking, tuition, and other public services.

The 3 million (Swiss franc) would assist facilitate the acceptance of cryptocurrency in Swiss cities that are crypto-oriented, according to Tether's CTO Paolo Ardoino, who claims that they want to demonstrate to the world how bitcoin can be used in real-life circumstances.
