Recently, we received some feedback from SafeWallet users that their digital assets had been stolen. After an in-depth investigation, we've found the main reason for digital assets' being stolen is that users fail to securely store their private keys and mnemonics. Here we're gonna share some cases of digital asset theft, hoping all of you can take a lesson therefrom and improve your safety awareness. To protect your digital assets, you shall first keep your private keys and mnemonics safe and secure!
Type 1: Private Key Theft
Case 1
A user tried to transfer his digital asset to a wallet on SafeWallet. He was notified that the transfer was successful, but it failed to reach his SafeWallet account. Through our investigation, we found that he had copied his private key to the clipboard during the transfer, which directly caused his asset to be stolen in a short period of time.
Note: please do not copy and paste your wallet info like private keys and mnemonics, or they may be easily stolen by others
Case 2
An African user has just lost his digital assets. During the communication with him, we found that he had told his private key and password to his family, for he thought it can better protect his digital assets.
Note: please keep your private keys and mnemonics safe and cannot be seen by others
Case 3
A wallet user sent his private key to his computer via WeChat, which directly resulted in the theft of his digital assets. So we strongly advise you to back up your private keys and mnemonics physically (write them down on a paper and keep this paper secure for example), and delete all related digital records.

Type 2: Password Theft
Case 1
A SafeWallet user told us in an e-mail that her wallet password stored in her phone was seen by her friends, and the total asset of $5000-$6000 in her wallet was put under threat. Luckily, our staff managed to instruct the user to successfully transfer her asset to a new wallet, and exhort her repeatedly to back up her password in time to protect asset safety.
Note: please do remember to back up your private key and mnemonic in time and keep them in a safe place.
Type 3: Mnemonic Theft
Case 1
A wallet user encountered a flashback problem and reported it to the discussion group on Telegram. A man who claimed to be the administrator contacted him privately, and told him that he can help solve this problem using mnemonic. The user then sent his mnemonic to this man, and soon found his assets were stolen.

Type 4: Having entered phishing sites
Case 1
A wallet user mistakenly entered a phishing site when he searched on Google for the website of the wallet product he was then using, and imported into his keystore files. The first time he typed into his password, he was told the password he entered was wrong. He retried and finally managed to enter the wallet page. The next day when he entered the right website, he found that all his assets had been stolen! The transfer record showed that the assets were transferred out 10 minutes after he was told that his password was not correct.
Note: please be sure you're entering the right wallet website. Adding the official website to your bookmark is advocated to ensure you'll enter the right one next time.
